NOH8

I know it's been a while since i posted on here, and I will be posting more from now on (hopefully). Anyway, todays post is a post that i did on my blogspot, but I wanted to post it here as well.

This post is about NOH8. I've been meaning to do a post about this for a while, but I wanted to do a painting to go along with it, and I was only able to that today. So here goes.

Banner

NOH8 is a charity which is basically about promoting equality. There mission statement is "The NOH8 Campaign is a charitable organization whose mission is to promote marriage, gender and human equality through education, advocacy, social media, and visual protest.". The actual NOH8 campaign was started up as a response to Proposition 8, which when passed meant that same-sex marriages are banned in California. What Adam Bouska and Jeff Parshley did was create a 'silent protest', photographs were (and still are) taken of "subjects with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced by Prop 8 and similar legislation around the world, with "NOH8" painted on one cheek in protest". Over 20,000 people have taken part in this, and the numbers are still growing.

Shanna Moakler, found here.

Plenty of famous faces have been included in shoots, and you can buy prints of the photographs at NOH8.

I love this campaign, the photographs are beautifully shot, and I'm a big supporter in equal rights for all. I don't understand how people can be judged by their sexuality, it's just such a strange concept for me. I don't like being judged, and most other people don't like being judged, but we still do it, for such stupid reasons. We're all human, why not act like it? Anyway, here's the painting I did.
The woman is actually Pauley Perrette (who I did a post about a few days ago on my blogspot, found here), and the dress was one she wore last years peoples choice. From what I've read Pauley designed the dress with Terri King, who does some amazing clothes! You can see the photograph that inspired this painting here.

Have you seen the campaign before? DO you have a favourite photograph? Have you had your photo taken for it?

And that's it for today.
