I know it's been a while since i posted on here, and I will be posting more from now on (hopefully). Anyway, todays post is a post that i did on my blogspot, but I wanted to post it here as well.
This post is about NOH8. I've been meaning to do a post about this for a while, but I wanted to do a painting to go along with it, and I was only able to that today. So here goes.
NOH8 is a charity which is basically about promoting equality. There mission statement is "The NOH8 Campaign is a charitable organization whose mission is to promote marriage, gender and human equality through education, advocacy, social media, and visual protest.". The actual NOH8 campaign was started up as a response to Proposition 8, which when passed meant that same-sex marriages are banned in California. What Adam Bouska and Jeff Parshley did was create a 'silent protest', photographs were (and still are) taken of "subjects with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced by Prop 8 and similar legislation around the world, with "NOH8" painted on one cheek in protest". Over 20,000 people have taken part in this, and the numbers are still growing.
So Golley Slater ran a competition to find a new name. The finalists are below (sadly my idea wasn’t picked) and I just wanted to write what i think of each.
Puck - At first I wasn’t sure what the name meant (all I could think of was hockey and glee). Then I actually read what was written about it, and i like the meaning behind it. The name is based on the character from midsummer nights dream, the mischievous one.
The Den - It’s the name of my blog! dude, seriously? I don’t want an ad agency named after my blog!
Ant - I don’t really get this idea, not much is written about it but i’m guessing it’s about how ants work together. I don’t really like it, when i think of ants, I think of little bugs messing with my food and being places I don’t want them to be!
Startling Wit - I like the name, but it sounds more like a publisher, not an ad agency.
The Burrow - Seriously? The burrow is where the Weasleys live! Unless Molly is creating ads, this is a no from me. Do you think Arthur’s just been trying to have some fun on the internet? trying to get down with the muggles?
You can probably tell who I have voted for by what i’ve said, but if you can’t, I voted for Puck.

so i have loads of clothes that i don't wear, and loads of leftover material from when my mum has made clothes. what's the point of letting it go to waste when i can make new things and save money? now i don't have the most traditional fashion sense, so what i've done might not be your cup of tea, but i hate tea and drink coffee.
the first thing i did was take the sleeves and collar off a dress, took it in a bit and added a button.
then i made a top from spare material, it can also be worn as a skirt!and finally i made this top
update 27/08/11
i've made a skirt to go with the top!
and another top!
Pride is the original sin, and what's more prideful than vanity?
This is a series of illustrations, each illustration is based on a different photos, from 7 of the photoshoots i have modelled in. Models need to have some narcissistic tendencies, or they'll never make it.
the brief - re-brand an existing digital, advertising and PR agency.
Most creative people i know are daydreamers, it's a way to let our minds play with ideas and try to find different outcomes. So welcome to Daydream Rendezvous.
I wanted to make this sort of a journey, or a recipe of sorts. the agency has been around for a while; tradition. the agency is modern; digital. the agency is imaginative; creative.
you can also see a rough video i made at http://youtu.be/Vu9thY13btg (i have changed my idea a bit since the video was made, the final product is what you see above.)
I think of myself as a creative person, so I like to try most art forms at least once, i've painted, drawn, sculpted, danced (I did a cringe worthy turn as a cheerleader many years ago) and many other things. I enjoy finding new ways to challenge my creativity, so for the past 9 months or so i've been modelling for different fashion/photography students. And I do find it quite a fun hobby, I doubt it will become anything serious though.
photographers L-R = Paddy Razzi, Lolly McCafferty and Sam Clarkethe breif was to create a new name, logo design and tag line for a ethical clothing brand.
the final name i came up with is "ethos&echoes" with the tag line "echo the eco ethos".
the other names i came up with were eco echo, earthly echos, ethical eco echo, eco ethos, and echoes of ethospages 1 to 13 of my newest sketch book. you can see slower videos, as well as videos not included in this at http://www.youtube.com/user/RubixCubeRubi
i've started filming part of my art "process" (like a have a "process"), so here is one of the films!
